Mentone Grammar
This large, custom-designed amenity and shelter package of Yarra 5 and Skillion Park shelters for Mentone Grammar School integrates seamlessly into the campus's multi-stage Bayview Precinct redevelopment. The Victorian school was transforming its eastern campus with new basketball and netball courts, an urban forest and a landscaped playing field, and required a full school toilet amenity and shelter package to suit. They approached Modus for our reputation as a specialist school toilets manufacturer.
Building Toilet Buildings to Withstand School Life
Mentone Grammar School needed a robust, vandalism-resistant solution capable of lasting many years of heavy student use, while prioritising privacy and safety and complying with AS1428.1 accessibility requirements. The look also needed to mesh with the overarching style of the Bayview Precinct redevelopment.
Delivering Durability, Privacy and an Integrated Aesthetic
Modus' engineers suggested a custom Yarra 5 toilet building featuring five single-use cubicles, perforated aluminium louvres and a covered verandah, plus four custom skillion park shelters: one large gathering shelter, one bike shed shelter and two smaller shelters.
The single-cubicle layouts promote student safety and privacy and provide AS1428-compliant accessible facilities, while mini-orb internal wall cladding resists vandalism and simplifies and speeds cleaning. Heavy-duty stainless steel toilet fixtures and galvanised steel framing ensure the facilities handle the demands of a busy school environment over the long term.
Finishes in Colorbond Woodland Grey and Windspray tones with Modwood Silverwood battens sit seamlessly alongside the school's existing buildings.
Off-Site Build for Easy On-Campus Install
The project used an off-site, prefabricated manufacturing approach for stronger control over final quality. We delivered everything in flat-pack panels and worked with our trusted contractor Barefoot Projects, who installed everything with minimal disruption to the operational school campus during the redevelopment.
