Redbank Reserve

When Wollondilly Shire Council needed new toilet amenities for Redbank Reserve playground, they called on Modus to deliver a modern, low-maintenance and inclusive facility for the community. In response, we designed and installed an AS1428.1-compliant, custom Yarra-1.5 toilet building finished in Spotted Gum-look aluminium and made from durable, low-maintenance materials.

A tight deadline inside a larger project

Our team was up against a tight deadline. The new toilet building had to slot into the wider Redbank Reserve masterplan upgrade and not impair the project's complex timelines. Timing and upfront clarity on various project needs would be crucial.

An inclusive toilet facility designed to last

Our engineers and the council's project management team settled on a compact two-cubicle layout made up of one universal access suite and one ambulant cubicle. This would include an integrated rear service area for cleaning and maintenance with everything tucked under a contemporary skillion roof.

We explicitly designed the facility to last. We paired heavy-duty marine grade stainless steel hardware with a hot-dip galvanised structural steel frame for greater durability and to keep down maintenance needs and ongoing operating costs.

The building's aesthetic is grounded in the landscape: Spotted Gum Wood-look Aluminium vertical fascia planking, Monument framing, and off-white Colorbond doors all echo the natural tones of the reserve.

For security, we fitted electric strikes to both cubicles so Council can lock up outside operating hours, cutting down on the potential for after-hours misuse and helping the asset last longer.

Early design consultation underpins fast, successful toilet install

One of the things that really helped was our Design Consultation process, helping Wollondilly lock in the scope, configuration, and finishes so that manufacturing could begin without hindrance. This also made the progression from initial brief to installation by the Council's own contractor straightforward and low-stress, helping meet the council's tight project deadlines.
